General Freight Services Across Queensland

F&T Freight's general freight service is the backbone of our operations. We handle palletised goods, cartons, parcels, and loose cargo for businesses of all sizes — from small enterprises shipping a few pallets per week to large corporations requiring daily multi-drop deliveries across the state.

Our general freight division operates a modern fleet of rigid trucks, tautliners, and semi-trailers capable of handling loads from a single pallet through to full truckloads. Every vehicle is maintained to the highest safety standards and equipped with GPS tracking for complete shipment visibility.

Load Types and Vehicle Options

F&T Freight Loading Dock Operations

We match the right vehicle to your freight requirements to ensure both cost efficiency and cargo safety. Our fleet includes a variety of vehicle configurations suited to different load types and access constraints.

Part Load (LTL): Ideal for shipments that do not fill an entire truck. Your freight is consolidated with other compatible shipments heading in the same direction, reducing costs while maintaining service quality. We carefully manage load planning to prevent damage from incompatible goods sharing space.

Full Truck Load (FTL): When you have enough freight to fill a vehicle, a dedicated truck is allocated exclusively to your consignment. This provides faster transit times, reduced handling, and greater scheduling flexibility. FTL services are available for all vehicle types in our fleet.

Multi-Drop Deliveries: For businesses distributing to multiple sites, we plan efficient multi-drop routes that minimise transit time while reaching all delivery points. Route optimisation technology helps us sequence drops for maximum efficiency.

Packaging and Preparation Guidelines

To ensure your goods arrive in perfect condition, we recommend the following preparation standards for general freight consignments:

All goods should be securely packaged in containers suitable for road transport. Palletised freight should be stretch-wrapped and stacked no higher than 1.5 metres. Cartons should be sealed with packing tape and clearly labelled with recipient details. Fragile items must be marked accordingly and packed with appropriate cushioning material.

If you are unsure about packaging requirements for your specific product type, our team can advise on the best approach to ensure safe transit. We also offer packaging services for businesses that require assistance preparing goods for transport.

General Freight — Common Questions

What is the minimum shipment size you accept?

There is no minimum. We handle everything from a single carton or satchel through to full truckloads. For very small items, our part-load (LTL) service consolidates your freight with compatible shipments heading in the same direction, keeping costs proportionate to the actual space your goods occupy.

How is freight pricing calculated?

Pricing is based on the greater of actual weight or cubic weight (volume), distance, service speed, and any special handling requirements. We calculate cubic weight at 250kg per cubic metre for road freight. We always quote the total cost upfront with no hidden surcharges — what we quote is what you pay.

What packaging do I need to provide?

Goods should be packaged to withstand normal road freight handling. Palletised goods should be stretch-wrapped and stable. Cartons should be sealed and labelled clearly. Fragile items require appropriate cushioning. If you are unsure about packaging requirements, our team can advise on the best approach for your specific goods.

What happens if my delivery address is unattended?

If no one is available to receive the delivery, our driver will attempt to contact you or your nominated receiver. If contact cannot be made, the goods are returned to our depot and a re-delivery is scheduled. We recommend providing an authority to leave (ATL) instruction if you are comfortable with unattended delivery.

Do you provide proof of delivery?

Yes, every delivery is confirmed with electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) including recipient name, signature, date, and time. POD documentation is available on request and can be emailed to you automatically upon delivery completion if you set up this preference with your account manager.
