Technology & Capabilities
F&T Freight invests in technology that provides tangible benefits to our clients: greater visibility, faster communication, improved accuracy, and enhanced safety. We do not adopt technology for its own sake — every system we implement must demonstrably improve the service experience for our customers or the safety of our operations.
The logistics industry has undergone significant technological transformation in recent years. From GPS tracking and electronic proof of delivery to automated notifications and performance analytics, modern freight operators can provide a level of visibility and accountability that was simply not possible a decade ago. F&T Freight embraces these capabilities to give our clients confidence and control over their supply chain.
Core Technology Systems
- GPS Fleet Tracking — real-time vehicle location and route monitoring
- Electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) — digital signatures and timestamp records
- Transport Management System — job allocation, scheduling, and workflow
- Automated Notifications — email alerts for dispatch, ETA, and delivery events
- Temperature Monitoring — continuous logging for refrigerated consignments
- Performance Analytics — delivery KPI reporting and trend analysis
- Online Booking — digital consignment creation and pickup requests
GPS Fleet Tracking
Every vehicle in our fleet is equipped with GPS tracking hardware that reports location data in real-time. This technology serves multiple purposes: it gives our operations team visibility over fleet movements for efficient dispatch decisions, it enables us to provide accurate ETAs to customers awaiting deliveries, and it creates a historical record of vehicle movements for audit and compliance purposes.
For our clients, GPS tracking means you can enquire about the status of your shipment at any time and receive a definitive answer about where it is and when it will arrive. No guessing, no vague estimates — just factual, real-time information.
GPS tracking also supports our safety and compliance programmes. We can verify that drivers are following approved routes, adhering to speed limits, and taking required rest breaks. Geofence alerts notify our operations team when vehicles enter or leave designated zones, enabling proactive management of delivery schedules.
Electronic Proof of Delivery
Our ePOD system replaces traditional paper-based delivery dockets with digital capture at the point of delivery. When your goods are delivered, the driver captures the recipient's signature on a mobile device along with a timestamp and GPS location. This information is immediately available to our operations team and can be forwarded to you.
Benefits of electronic proof of delivery include faster availability of delivery confirmation (no waiting for paper dockets to be returned to base), reduced disputes about delivery times and recipients, and a permanent digital record that cannot be lost or damaged like paper documentation.
For businesses that require photographic evidence of delivery condition or placement, our drivers can capture images at the delivery point which are attached to the consignment record. This is particularly useful for high-value goods, fragile items, or deliveries to unattended locations.
Automated Notifications
Keeping you informed should not require you to make phone calls or send emails chasing updates. Our notification system automatically sends alerts at key milestones in the delivery process:
- Dispatch Alert: Sent when your consignment leaves our depot or is collected from your premises
- In-Transit Update: For interstate shipments, updates at key checkpoints along the route
- ETA Notification: Estimated arrival time sent to the receiver before delivery
- Delivery Confirmation: Immediate notification when delivery is completed, including ePOD details
- Exception Alert: Immediate notification if any issue arises that may affect delivery timing
Notifications can be configured to suit your preferences — sent to you, your customer, or both. The format and frequency can be adjusted based on your operational requirements and your customers' expectations.
Temperature Monitoring (Cold Chain)
For refrigerated transport services, our vehicles are equipped with continuous temperature logging systems that record the cargo space temperature at regular intervals throughout the journey. This data creates an unbroken thermal record from collection to delivery, providing evidence that cold chain integrity has been maintained.
Temperature data can be provided as a detailed report accompanying each delivery, meeting the documentation requirements for food safety compliance, pharmaceutical logistics, and quality assurance programmes. If a temperature excursion occurs, alerts are triggered immediately so corrective action can be taken before product integrity is compromised.
Chain of Responsibility Compliance
Chain of Responsibility (CoR) legislation requires all parties in the transport supply chain to ensure safety outcomes. Technology plays a critical role in demonstrating compliance with CoR obligations. Our systems provide documented evidence of:
- Vehicle speed compliance via GPS tracking data
- Driver work hours and rest periods through electronic work diary integration
- Vehicle maintenance schedules and completion records
- Load weight verification and mass management
- Route compliance and approved road usage
This technology-supported compliance framework protects both F&T Freight and our clients by ensuring all regulatory obligations are met and documented.
Technology — Common Questions
Currently, tracking information is available by contacting our operations team directly via phone or email. We provide real-time updates on request including current vehicle location, estimated arrival time, and delivery status. We are developing a client portal for direct self-service tracking access in the near future.
Our ETAs are calculated using live GPS position data combined with real-time traffic information and the driver's remaining delivery sequence. Accuracy is typically within 15-30 minutes for metropolitan deliveries. We proactively communicate if conditions change that may affect the estimated arrival beyond this window.
Our ePOD system captures recipient name, digital signature, delivery date and time, GPS coordinates of the delivery location, and optional photographic evidence. POD records are stored digitally and can be provided as PDF documents via email. Bulk POD downloads are available for high-volume clients.
We support data integration with client systems for high-volume accounts. Common integrations include automated booking file transfers (CSV/EDI), status update feeds, and POD delivery confirmation notifications. Integration requirements are assessed on a case-by-case basis during the account setup process.
All client data and shipment information is stored on secure, encrypted servers with regular backups. Access to client information is restricted to authorised personnel only. Our systems comply with Australian Privacy Principles and we do not share client data with third parties without explicit consent.
